Caterpillars

We just got finished having eggs and chicks in our classroom and this week we got live caterpillars!!  We are hopefully going to get to see the life cycle of a butterfly happen in our classroom.  Over the past few days we have realized that our caterpillars are definitely getting bigger and fatter.  One is even starting to crawl up to the top!  Once the caterpillars reach the top they will begin to make their chrysalises.  Here is a picture of our caterpillars.  Stay tuned to see what happens next!

Eggs and Chicks

It has been such an exciting first week back from spring break!  We got three eggs to put in our incubator on Monday.  This was the perfect time to get eggs because we just learned all about oviparous animals.  Today we walked in the classroom and our first chick had hatched out of his egg!!  It was so fun to see all of the kids' faces light up when they realized we had a chick.  Right before we started packing up to go home we got to witness the miracle of a chick hatching!!  It was amazing that we were able to see the second egg hatch!  We have had a great time documenting our observations in our chick books.  Here are a few pictures.

Silver Paw Lunch

This past Tuesday every student that earned their silver paw got invited to a special silver paw lunch!  Our entire class was able to go!  We had a blast sitting outside in the sun, listening to fun music and talking with all of our friends!  We even got to get our picture made with a special frame.  Here are some pictures from this special event.

Hoops for Heart

This week we ended our fundraising for Hoops for Heart with a celebration in the gym.  We had a blast showing off our jump rope and basketball skills!  When it wasn't our turn we spent the whole 45 minutes jumping and cheering for our classmates.  We showed so much spirit that we ended up winning JR, a stuffed animal heart, for being the kindergarten class with the most spirit!!  After everything was done we also found out that our class raised the most money in kindergarten!  We raised over $1,500!!  As a school, we ended up raising over $20,000!  That is amazing!!  Here are a few pictures from our day!

Living or Nonliving

We had beautiful weather this week!  To take advantage we spent some time outside as scientists.  We have been talking about what makes something living or nonliving.  Before we headed outside we learned that living things breathe, grow, and so much more.  We brought our recording sheet outside and the students were able to pick different objects that they saw to record.  Part of the recording process was answering certain questions to help us determine if it was alive or not.  Here are some pictures!

Senses

We have had so much fun these past two weeks learning about our five senses! The kids were able to investigate their senses through many fun activities.  We realized how important each of our senses are and how it can be difficult if one or more of our senses do not work.  Through the many books that we read about the five senses we learned that all of our senses send signals to our brain to alert us.  One of our favorite senses to learn about was the sense of taste.  We got to try foods that were sweet, salty, sour and bitter.  It was interesting to see what tastes were our favorites and which tastes we did not care for.  Here are some pictures from our tasting day!
