What we have learned and worked on throughout the week...
Science: I can identify how fall effects people and plants.
We have been talking about how fall changes the way people dress and how plants and the weather change. We went on a fall leaf walk to see if we could see signs that fall is here. We found many trees that had leaves that had already changed colors (red, yellow, orange, brown) and some that had already started to fall off.
Reading Workshop: I can listen to my partner read and use it to add more to my reading.
We have been reading some of our favorite storybooks which include fairy tales that we have been reading in class. The kids have been working on looking at the pictures, remembering what the story is about and then reading it. We have been reading these books to and with our partners!
Secret Reader:
We have had so much fun with our secret readers so far!!
Mama Jan came to read to our class!
Gray's mom came to read to our class!

Week of October 2nd
A few pictures from last week...
Science: I can use my five senses to observe apples.
The kids loved trying all different kinds of apples! While they tried them, they thought about what each apple looked, smelled, felt, sounded and tasted like. We then graphed each child's favorite apple! Most students liked the yellow apple the best!
Friendship Friday
I have started making our Fridays a day where we focus on friendship. Each Friday we spend writing workshop writing and drawing pictures for friends in our class. I pull sticks so that each child randomly writes to a new and different child. We talk about how we can all be friends and that it is important that we are kind to everyone. After they write, they share what they like or appreciate about the person that they were given. The students have to go to that child and explain what they like about them. So far everyone has said that this has given them a "heart thought" or makes their heart feel happy!
What we have learned and worked on throughout the week...
Writing: I can label a picture.
We continued to work on "stretching words like bubble gum" to label our illustrations.
We added pictures and labels to our heart maps of things that are close to our hearts. This will give us inspiration as we write this year!
Social Studies: I can learn and interact as a community of learners.
We studied ants this week to see how they work as a community. We compared this to how we also have to work together as a community.
We loved going on our "ant hunt" to observe ants working together. We did go over some safety rules before!
We made our own ant tunnels. The kids were put into groups and they had to work together to make a plan and figure out how to successfully get through the tunnels!

Week of September 25th
What we have learned and worked on throughout the week...
We worked with partners to "stretch words like bubble gum" to label the classroom!
Science: I can use my 5 senses to tell about apples.
We have learned so much about apples by using our 5 senses. We have loved doing apple experiments too!
We did an experiment to see if soda, milk, lemon, or water would help keep an apple from turning brown!
The apples we observed!
Our apple experiment results!
Our new student Brayden!!
The kids listened to a story and then drew pictures of what the book made them think of. They loved sharing with their neighbors!
Writing Workshop: I can label a picture.
We had so much fun learning how to label this week! In order to label and write down words, we have been practicing stretching our words like "bubble gum". We have to say the word slowly, several times until we can write down all the sounds that we hear.
We labeled Jack!
