Week of January 29th

This is what we have learned and worked on this week...


Phonics/ Word Study: I can rhyme one word with another.  I can identify rhyming words.
This week we have continued to explore rhyming words.  We spent time in groups coming up with as many rhyming words as we could.  






Secret Reader:
Gray's mom came to read to our class this week! 




Star Student:
Garrett was our "star student" this week!  We have had a great time getting to know about his passion for soccer, Pete the Cat and other things!

Week of January 22nd

This is what we have learned and worked on this week...


Kindness Challenge:
This week we have all participated in the Kindness Challenge by dressing up, donating food, checking off good deeds we have done throughout the week and really focusing on being kind to others through our words and actions.  Our whole school also read the book Last Stop on Market Street and had discussions about kindness and helping others.  Here are some pictures!





Social Studies: I can identify American symbols. 
This week and next week we will be learning about many American symbols such as the American Flag, Bald Eagle, Liberty Bell, White House, and the Statue of Liberty.  We are taking notes of facts we learn after reading about them.



Sail Slips:
This week all of the students in our class were able to participate in our school dance party because they earned at least 40 sail slips this nine weeks!  Here are some pictures of them with their glow sticks about to go to the dance party!

Mikey's mom came to read to our class!

Week of January 15th

What we have learned and worked on throughout the week...


Phonics: I can rhyme one word with another.  I can identify rhyming words.
This week we have had fun playing rhyming word games on the Smartboard.  We have learned that rhyming words sound the same at the end.




Social Studies: I can identify historical figures. 
We have enjoyed learning about Martin Luther King Jr. through books, magazines, videos and discussions this week!


Secret Reader: 
Cooper's dad came to read to us this week!



Star Student: 
Kaydence was our "star student" this week!  We have loved learning about her family and some of her favorite things!

Week of January 8th

What we have learned and worked on throughout the week...


Reading Workshop: 
One of our super-reader powers is "pointer power".  To help us become better readers we have been working on pointing to each word as we read.  We have enjoyed our new flashlight finger pointers!




Science: I can tell facts about winter. 
We have been talking about winter and this week we focused on ice.  We enjoyed doing some ice experiments in class!  Your child might want to try some of these at home!

Guidance: 
This week Mrs. Dreher came to visit us!  She taught us how to move our bodies so that we can get our endorphins pumping!  This can help us get rid of our "bug feelings".

Mrs. Reese, our assistant principal, came to read to our class! 


Anna Claire's mom came to read to our class! 


Corbin's mom came to read to our class!

Star Student:
Our "star student" this week was Anna Claire!  We have loved hearing Anna Claire read us some of her favorite books!  We learned a lot about her, her family and things that she loves!
