Writing Challenge #5:
Our writing challenge for next week is inspired by many of the kids in our class. Have your child write a "how to" book to share with the class. This may be something that they are passionate and knowledgeable about. For example, a child could write directions for how to make a cake. They will likely use the words "first", "then", "next" and "last".

What We've Been Learning
Reading and Writing: I can read to find facts about animals. I can research facts about animals.
This week we started learning about how to research something that we are interested in. I worked with the media specialist to plan instruction. This week I modeled how to read about animals on PebbleGo and then write in our own words what we learned on a recording sheet. We have been working in small groups to learn more about an interesting animal. We will present on Friday and then next week each child will choose an animal and research on their own! We will also introduce how to use books as a resource too.
Math: I can describe the position of objects.
Here are some of the math tubs that we have for the kids to explore. All of the math tubs include activities to reinforce what we have been learning in this chapter about position and more practice with adding and subtracting fluently.
Students had to use position words to try and find where a friend's counter was on the board. It is kind of like the game Battleship!
Students took turn being the teacher and the student. The teacher would show an addition or subtraction problem and the student would write down the answer. The teacher would then check their work and help the student when needed!
Students played Simon Says with position words! "Put the bear above your head".
Students played games on the iPad to practice addition and subtraction fluency!
