Week of February 26th

What we have been learning and working on this week...

Baby Shower:
Thank you all for being a part of the baby shower to celebrate baby Jax and our growing family!  We all had so much fun eating a special snack, playing games and opening presents.  Here are some pictures!

Reading Celebration:
We had our second reading celebration this week!  We have grown so much as readers and are working on growing our "super reading powers" every day!  We celebrated our growth as readers by dressing up as our favorite superheroes, listening to our guest reader Dr. Hefner (our superintendent) read us a book, talking with other classes about our favorite super reader powers, eating a special snack, talking with each other about our growth as readers and getting a new book to add to our home libraries!

As a class, we have already read a ton of books this year!  You can keep track at home too!

Secret Reader:
Baylee's mom came to read to our class!

Star Student:
Our "star student" this week is Nate!  We have loved learning about Nate, especially about his passion for El Toro Loco!

Week of February 19th

This is what we have been learning and working on this week...

Reading: I can listen to stories read aloud so I can compare characters.
We have been reading books and comparing the characters.  Here is a picture of some similarities and differences we found with the characters.  We also used these characters to write opinion pieces during writing workshop.

Math: I can compose and decompose numbers 11-19. 
We have been working on making and taking apart numbers this week.  Here are some pictures of students working together in math tubs to practice this concept and pictures of students working in math journals at our tables.

Orange Day:
We had a great time during "orange day"!  We celebrated everyone knowing their orange word list by creating orange art pieces and writing about them, using orange colored pencils to write, making words with orange playdoh and more!

Star Student: 
Our "star student" this week was Eva!  We have loved learning about Eva and the things that she enjoys!
