Week of March 5th

What we have learned and worked on this week...

Read Across America:
This past Friday we celebrated Read Across America and Dr. Seuss' birthday by "Rocking and Reading" and through our school book drive!

Technology Time:
Our whole class earned technology time for following our school expectations and earning golden SAILS!

Yellow Day:
Everyone in our class knows all of their yellow list words!  We celebrated by wearing yellow, using yellow playdoh to create sight words, writing with yellow colored pencils and writing stories about our yellow creations.

Word Study: I can read and write short a words.
We prepared for our first "spelling test" by finding short a words in poems, reading short a words, writing short a words, finding pictures that match our short a words and by playing games with short a words.

Writing: I can write a story using capital letters, punctuation, spaces, and spelling high frequency words correctly.
We are finishing up our opinion writing unit this week.  One of the things that we really focused on was our writing conventions.  To practice, the kids got into groups and went through a piece of writing to edit it.

Secret Reader:
Emerson's mom came to read to our class!

Jack's mom came to read to our class!

Star Student:
Our "star student" this week was Baylee!  We have loved learning all about Baylee this week.  We even learned that one of her favorite authors is Shel Silverstein!
