Week of February 13th

Reading Challenge #1:
The kids and I have been so excited to see pictures of friends in our class reading outside of school!  Keep the pictures coming!

Reading Challenge #2:
The Traveling Book Bag has been a success so far!  Many kids have already signed up to take the bag home.  The kids that have had the opportunity to take the bag home so far have said that they have loved sharing some of their favorite books with their families!  Here are some pictures.

Reading Challenge #3:
Go to the public library with your child.  Enjoy some time at the library picking out good books with your kids.  Take a picture of your child at the library or reading the books that they got!

What We've Been Learning:



Sight Words:  I can identify sight words.

Shared Reading: I can listen to stories read aloud so I can compare characters.
This week we read books and then after we talked about what was the same and different about two of the characters.  We talked about their feelings, their characteristics, etc.


Writing: I can write my opinion about my favorite character in a book.
We used the books that we read for shared reading and then wrote about which character was our favorite.  We are working on adding as many reasons as we can think of.

Math: I can compose and decompose numbers 11-19.
This week we started a new chapter on making and taking apart numbers.  We also introduced new math tub games to work on composing and decomposing numbers and addition and subtraction fluency.

Science: I can learn about the heart and how it helps me. 
We started the week out learning about the heart and how the heart helps you.  Since we also celebrated Valentine's Day this week we did some experiments with candy hearts.
