Week of February 5th

What we have learned and worked on this week...

Phonics/ Word Study: I can make words by replacing and substituting letters.
We have been working on making words and then changing letters to make new words.

Reading: I can listen to information read aloud and determine the importance.
Students in this picture are recording their thoughts in their reading journals from a book we aloud.

Reading Workshop: I can use my letter sound knowledge to read unknown words.
We have worked hard on using our sound power to read unknown words.  We get our mouth ready to say the beginning sound(s) and then look at the picture to think about what would make sense.

Science: I can describe how to take care of my teeth.
We have read books, done picture sorts and participated in some writing to learn about how to take care of our teeth.

Secret Reader:
Cooper's Meme came to read to our class!  We loved the Groundhog Day pencils that she brought us!

Sunni's mom came to read to us!

Star Student:
Our "star student" this week was Corbin!  We have loved getting to know about Corbin's family and some of his favorite things this week!

100th Day of School:
We had so much fun on the 100th day of school!  I cannot believe how much everyone has grown in these first 100 days of kindergarten!

Groundhog Day:
We were so excited to see if the groundhog saw his shadow last Friday!  Here are our predictions.  After we made our predictions we did some research and found out that he did see his shadow so there is going to be 6 more weeks of winter.

Jump Rope for Heart:
Our class was so excited to be "heart heroes" and participate in Jump Rope for Heart!  They made signs, cheered on their friends and jumped their hearts out!  They had so much spirit that we won the "JR award"!

Guidance:
We learned so much from our time with our guidance counselor Mrs. Dreher this week!  We learned how to stay safe and say "no" to strangers.  The kids had a lot of fun determining if situations were safe choices or dangerous choices.
