Traveling Book Bag

"Hi Mrs. Quarles,

You have such wonderful ideas, but the traveling book bag might be our favorite yet! We had so much fun sharing in Colton's favorite class books. He read them to me and I read them to him, and he truly enjoyed the journal. It was a great activity for us to share tonight! Reading Challenge #4:

Reading Challenge #5:
Our reading challenge this week is inspired by Ryan and Colton!  They both sent in short videos of themselves reading!  Your challenge this week is to film your child reading and try to send it to me.  The kids love watching their friends read!  It can be of them reading anything!  It can even be of you reading with your child.  This will be a great memory to hold on to!

Writing Challenge #1: 
Write down someone's news.

What We've Been Learning


Writing: I can write an informative story. 
This week we have been learning about informative writing through digging through mentor texts (informational texts that other authors wrote).  After looking through these books we came up with a list of things that we thought were important to include in our own informative writing.  We came up with making sure we add labels, photographs or drawings, true facts and write about one topic.  Here are two pieces of informative writing that we wrote about as a class after we read informational texts. 



Literacy Centers: I can work with people in my center to grow as a writer, reader, and as a mathematician.
The major focus in literacy centers is to get students engaged in reading and writing.  We learn to read and write by reading and writing.  Everything that goes into literacy centers have been learned together during other times of the day.

Vincent writing and reading words and then deciding if they are real or nonsense.

Math: I can add and subtract fluently.
This is not the "I Can" statement that we were focusing on this week but for the past month we have really been focusing on adding and subtracting fluently at the beginning of our math lesson and in math tubs.  This means we can use a variety of strategies to find the answer to addition and subtraction problems.  One of our favorite fluency games is "Cut It"!  You can find this game at funbrain.com!




Science: I can identify living and nonliving things. 
These past two weeks we have been talking about living vs. nonliving things and how to determine this.  We learned that living things need air, water, food and shelter to live.  Here are some pictures of our nature walk!  We looked to see if things were living or nonliving and recorded our answers.
