Week of September 10th and 17th

This is what we've been working on this week...

Phonics/ Word Study: I can tell the difference between a word, letter and sentence.
We have talked a lot about the differences in letters, words and sentences this past week.  Students have participated in many whole group and small group activities to learn and then show what they know.

Writing: I can tell a story through pictures.
The past few weeks we have talked about how powerful our pictures are.  Our pictures tell stories so it is important that we add details.  This week we have gone back to our writing and added in more character and setting details.

Reading Workshop: I can read a book from beginning to end, from cover to cover.
We have learned a lot about reading independently and reading with partners this week.  We have found WOW pages to share with our partners (we marked them with sticky notes), started reading from the front cover to the back cover and also practiced reading with flashlights during our "Flashlight Friday"!

Math: I can identify a number that is one more.
We have been practicing what the term one more means by showing our thinking through drawings and participating in math talks.  Ms. Gillen taught our math lesson this day!

Guest Reader:
This past week we had a special reader come to our class.  This is a former Learning Lamb!  The kids loved the book that Mikey chose to read!

Star Student:
This week was Leo's "star student" week!  We loved learning about Leo's passions and seeing what is important to him!

Morning Meeting:
During our morning meeting we read our message.  Ms. Gillen wrote two of the messages and the students helped Ms. Gillen fill in the missing letters.
